John Chapter 3 Verse 16

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only brought-forth Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but possess everlasting life."

John Chapter 3 Verse 16
is a popular verse quoted many times by Christians when talking about salvation and everlasting life. So, let's have a look at it in context with the whole chapter. Christianity tells us that John 3 v 16 shows us that our heavenly Father loves us so much that He sent His Son to make a way so that we might have a personal relationship with Him through His Son’s blood that was shed on the tree and so that we may have life...

Firstly, let's have look at the word 'Believe'. To believe is defined as: to accept as true or realThe word 'believe' in Greek is the word 'Pisteou' meaning : to have faith in but also be persuaded in.

So what does one mean when saying 'I believe in the Son' or 'I believe in the Almighty?'

Is a belief simply knowing He exists and He is who He says He is?

Not from a Hebraic perspective. It is a translation of the Hebrew verb 'Aman'.

The King James version of the Bible translates the verb 'Aman' as the following in different instances: believe, assurance, faithful, sure, established, trust, verified, steadfast, continuance, father, bring up, nurse, be nursed, surely, stand fast and trusty. All of these words for this one word!

The basic meaning behind the Hebrew word 'Aman' is 'to Support.'

The Hebrew concrete understanding is: Firm ground is chosen as the site for setting up a tent so when the tent pegs are driven into the soil, the firm ground will support the tent even in strong wind.

In Genesis Chapter 15 Verse 6 it is said about Abraham: "And he believed (aman) in YaHuWaH; and He counted it to him for righteousness."

Abraham showed His belief in YaHuWaH by his actions and being obedient to YAH's voice as shown in:

Genesis Chapter 26 Verses 4 - 5

"And I will make your descendants numerous like the stars of heaven and I will give to your seed all these lands and all the nations of the land will be blessed through your seed because Abraham HEARD My voice and OBEYED my charge and My Commands and My decrees and My teachings."

This ties in with the rest of the chapter of John 3

If you carry on reading this passage, in verse 18 it says that those who believe in Him will not be judged, but those who do not believe will be judged already because they did not believe on the NAME of the only brought forth Son. So, we can see that we must believe in YaHuWaH's brought forth Son Yahushua

In verse 36 of the same chapter, it also says this:

"He who believes in the Son possesses everlasting life, but he who does not OBEY the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of Elohim (God) remains on him."

So not only must we believe in the Son and His Name, but we must ALSO OBEY the Son. Just as Abraham listened to YaHuWaH's voice and obeyed. We must remember that the Adversary / Satan believes in Yahushua but he DOES NOT OBEY!

Revelation Chapter 14 Verse 12 confirms that our witness as believers is two-fold:

"Here is the endurance of the set-apart ones, here are those guarding the Commands of YaHuWaH AND the belief of Yahushua."

So, we can see that belief isn't just a thought or knowing and accepting that Yahushua is the brought forth Son of YaHuWaH. Our belief is shown through our actions and obeying Him. Will you 'support' the brought forth Son through your actions and in obedience (a Hebraic perspective) or only through your mind (a Greek perspective)?

1 John Chapter 2 Verses 3 - 6

"And by this we know that we know Him, if we guard (keep) His commandments. The one who says, ‘I know (believe in) Him,’ and does not guard His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in Him. But whoever guards His word, truly the love of the Almighty has been perfected in him. The one who stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked."
