The 'Feast of Tabernacles' is also known by the name of 'Sukkot' in Hebrew. This is the most joyous of all the appointed times and is a time of celebration. It is the crescendo of the appointed times and occurs at the end of the harvest season when all of the harvest has been gathered in. It is to be celebrated for seven days with thankfulness and rejoicing. The first day is a set-apart gathering, and no work is to be done.
Leviticus Chapter 23 Verses 33 - 36
"And YaHuWaH spoke to Moses saying 'Speak to the children of Israel, saying 'On the fifteenth day of this seventh new moon (month) at evening, is the Festival of Sukkot ( Feast of Tabernacles) for seven days to YaHuWaH. On the first day is a set-apart gathering, you do no servile work. For seven days you bring a food offering to YaHuWaH. On the eighth day there shall be a set-part gathering for you, and you shall bring a food offering to YaHuWaH. It is a closing festival, you do no servile work."
Leviticus Chapter 23 Verses 39 - 43
"On the fifteenth day of the seventh new moon (month), when you gather in the fruit of the land, celebrate the Festival of YaHuWaH for seven days. On the first day is a rest, and on the eight day a rest. And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of good trees, branches of palm trees, twigs of leafy trees, and willows of the stream, and shall rejoice before YaHuWaH your God for seven days. And you shall celebrate it as a festival to YaHuWaH for seven days in the year - a law forever in your generations. Celebrate it in the seventh new moon (month). Dwell in booths for seven days; all who are native born in Israel dwell in booths, so that your generations know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim (Egypt). I am YaHuWaH your God."
The most visible symbol of Sukkot is the small booth the Israelites are commanded to dwell in for the eight days of the feast (Leviticus 23:33-43). These booths are a reminder to Israel that they once dwelled in temporary shelters during the forty years in the wilderness, totally dependent on YaHuWaH and His provision. YaHuWaH is faithful, and He continues to provide all we need to walk upright before Him still today.
Zechariah foretold of a time in the 'Millennial Kingdom' when all nations will ascend to Jerusalem each year to worship the King, YaHuWaH of hosts, and to keep the feast of Tabernacles / Sukkot (Zechariah 14:16). So we also keep this appointed time as a reminder of this future prophetic purpose. Throughout the Messianic Age, the entire world will celebrate this feast because it will mark the return of Yahushua to Earth.
The Eighth Day - Shemini Atzeret
The number eight is closely associated with new beginnings. The eighth day is referred to as 'Simcha Torah', which means 'Rejoicing in the Torah'. Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are celebrated on the same day. It is the eighth day of Sukkot and depicts 'Olam Haba', the time following the Millennium. The eighth day therefore represents a symbol of eternity, and rejoicing in eternity is associated with the Torah.
This was the final appointed time of YaHuWaH and we hope you found them interesting. Before this section ends we have a page that displays the dates for this year's appointed times dates...
