We don't always understand the full significance of events when we read and study the Scriptures. Some people might prefer to only read the New Testament in their Bibles, and some could even consider the Tanakh, or Old Testament, to be a book of history that has no relevance to contemporary times.
Unfortunately, this style of thinking is extremely widespread and entirely incorrect. YaHuWaH does not change. His Word does not change. He has had a plan since the beginning of time. Many books in the Old Testament, or Tanakh, foretell the Messiah's birth, death, and resurrection. If we do not read the Old Testament, we will miss out on a wealth of knowledge and incredible revelations. The phrase 'Old Testament' was first coined by the Roman Marcion, an ardent disciple of the self-proclaimed Apostle Saul, also known as Paul.
Now we'll look at Yahushua's death on the stake to get just one of these insights—one of the most emotional passages of the Gospel, when Yahushua was hung upon the tree.
"And at about the ninth hour Yahushua cried out with a loud voice saying, 'Eli, Eli, lamah shebaqtani.' That is, 'My God (El), My God (El), why have you forsaken Me?'"
Many people today interpret Yahushua's cry as a desperate plea to His Father, expressing anguish, pain, and fear, as well as a sense of isolation and abandonment by Him. Some may even point out that He addressed His Father as 'God' (El), rather than Father. These interpretations portray Yahushua as fearful and questioning His Father.
When Yahushua uttered these words, He wasn't crying out to His Father; He was uttering the words of David in Psalm 22.
In Psalm Chapter 22 Verses 16 - 18, David prophesies Yahushua's death and the events that would happen:
"For dogs have surrounded Me, a crowd of evil ones have encircled Me, piercing My hand and My feet; I count all My bones. They look, they stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, and for My raiment they cast lots."
When Yahushua spoke these words, He was informing those who knew Him and knew scripture that David's prophecy had just been fulfilled. Those who knew the scriptures would have recognised that He was referencing Psalm 22, and they would have realised that what had just happened fulfilled that prophecy, confirming Yahushua's identity as the Messiah.
They would have remembered the message of Psalm 22, and they would have realised that the events had just occurred right in front of them, such as a crowd of evil people surrounding Yahushua and shouting "Crucify Him". They pierced his hands and feet with nails. None of his bones were fractured. The crowd stared and jeered at him. They divided His clothing and cast lots for it.
Yahushua's ministry work during His first arrival was completed. He came to perform His Father's will, and when He finished it, He gave praise and glory to His Father, YaHuWaH.
