The Feast of Trumpets

The remainder of the Appointed Times is directed to the seventh month – the Sabbath month. The next appointed time is the Feast of Trumpets, also known as Yom Teruah. This occurs around the autumnal equinox. It is not really a feast as such and occurs at the ingathering of the fruit harvest.

Leviticus Chapter 23 Verses 24 - 25

"Speak to the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh moon (month), on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with a blast of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall not do any ordinary work, and you shall present a food offering to YaHuWaH."

On YaHuWaH's calendar, the 'Feast of Trumpets' or 'Yom Teruah' in Hebrew is the only annual appointed time that truly falls on the first day of the new moon or month. The Hebrew term 'Teruah' means 'Blowing' or 'Blasting', but it is frequently rendered as 'Trumpet' or 'Shofar'. It is a memorial blast calling us to repentance. What are often known as the '10 days of awe' begin on this appointed time and last until the next scheduled period of the 'Day of Atonement' known as 'Yom Kippur' in Hebrew. No work is required today since it is a set-apart day.

The Messiah Yahushua tells us of an important trumpet call in:

Matthew Chapter 24 Verses 30 - 31

"And then the sign of the Son of Man shall appear in the heavens, and then all the nations of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the heavens with much power and much esteem. And He shall send His messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other."

The "Sound of the Trumpet" in Zachariah Chapter 9 and Isaiah 27 is analogous to Matthew Chapter 24's loud trumpet call. Is it possible this is what Yahushua is referring to when He states that the Son of Man makes an appearance in the heavens? It may be about the moment when the Son of Man assembles His elect by sending His messengers. He is alerting us and getting us ready for His coming. We sometimes wonder, could He possibly return on this appointed time?

Another important event that happened on the Feast of Trumpets was the birth of the Messiah. Yahushua was not born on 25th of December as many people are led to believe. He was born on the 11th September 3 BCE.

The brightest star in the Virgo constellation, 'Bethulah', and the full moon would have been visible. The sky would have heralded the birth of the Messiah, as told in:

Revelation Chapter 12 Verses 1 - 2

"And there appeared a great sign in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: and she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered."

Our Messiah was born during this period, when shofars or trumpets were ringing out all over the country. It was when the constellation Virgo, which represented His mother Miriam/Mary, had the 'sun above her head and the moon at her feet'. The prophecy of Micah Chapter 5 Verse 2 was fulfilled when He was born in Bethlehem, the City of David. How magnificent it is that YaHuWaH's appointed time for a memorial blast coincided with the birth of our Messiah! The 25th of December is the day of the pagan idols' births, not Yahushua's!

The exact date of Yahushua's birth can be determined using scripture, calendars, and a variety of modern methods. For more information and a thorough examination of the topic of the Messiah's birth at the Feast of Trumpets, please click on the image below, which will open an in-depth PDF article.
