YaHuWaH

The Name Above
All Names

"Remember the Sabbath Day, to qadosh it (set it apart). Six days you labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of YaHuWaH your God. You do not do any work—neither you nor your son nor your daughter nor your male servant nor your female servant nor your cattle nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days YaHuWaH made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, YaHuWaH Barak (Blesses) the Sabbath day and sets it apart."

For the 4th Commandment we are to remember the Sabbath day and set it apart. YaHuWaH speaks more about keeping the Sabbath than any other commandment. He blessed and separated the seventh day as a sign to indicate who are the people who truly belong to Him—these will be loyal to Him and rest with Him on the day the Creator set out for that purpose.

Firstly and very importantly, let's establish which day is the Sabbath. Sunday, as in Christian tradition, is NOT the Sabbath, and Friday evening, as with Jewish tradition, is NOT the beginning of it either. The Sabbath begins at dawn on Saturday morning when the shemesh (sun) rises and ends Saturday evening when the sun sets.

A cursory examination of the history of 'Sun-day'—also known as 'Lord's Day'—would reveal the obvious proof that the Roman Catholic Church substituted Sunday for the Sabbath day on its own initiative, independent of any scriptural authority. YaHuWaH gave us life's instructions through Moses (click here for additional details).

If you read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, you will not find a single line authorising the sanctification of Sunday other than an allusion from Paul in one of his many confusing and unscriptural letters (more on Paul later). The trusted set-apart scriptures have always taught observance of the seventh day—Saturday.

The Sabbath was set-apart in Creation. YaHuWaH created everything in 6 days, and on the 7th day He rested. If YaHuWaH rested on the 7th day, how much more should we?

In Hebrew, Sabbath means the 7th day. The Sabbath is a seal—a covenant. A sign between YaHuWaH and His people. It has not ended, been changed, or been 'nailed to a cross'. Yahushua honoured and kept the Sabbath.

We are to rest and not work on the Sabbath, as is everyone in our household. To make it easier to avoid doing these things on the Sabbath day, it is a good idea to finish all of your jobs and chores over the other six days. To rest is to cease and be still. We take spiritual rest in YaHuWaH in addition to resting our bodies and thoughts from daily stressors.

The Sabbath is spoken of 9 times in the Book of Acts. It is called 'a sign' between YaHuWaH and His set-apart people—Israel. The only sign of the 'Everlasting Covenant' (see Exodus 31:13-17 and Ezekiel 20:12-20).

The seventh day of the week has always been and always will be YaHuWaH's Sabbath day. He has set apart and blessed this day. You have displayed the sign that you are a part of YaHuWaH and His Son, the sent Messiah, if you guard this day. For those who wholeheartedly love the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, as well as the Messiah, Yahushua, the Sabbath day is a delight.

However, adherents of mainstream Christianity are taught that "Sunday is the Lord's Day" or "every day is now a Sabbath in the Lord." They willingly and deliberately violate the Sabbath, encourage others to do the same, and denigrate it as well. However, the blessing of inheriting His Kingdom will be bestowed upon individuals who choose to show their true love for YaHuWaH by obeying Him, honouring Him, and guarding His set-apart day.
